Desi Rinpoche was born in a Himalayan region.  He was recognised as incarnation of 7th Desi Ngawang Monlam Gyatso, head of Sungrab Ling monastery in Gongkar Dol. Sungrabling monastery was founded by the 5Th Dalai Lama Ngawang Losang Gyatso.
When he was 15 years old he took foremost ordination as a novice monk in front of Sakyamuni statue (Lhasa Jowo) from the abbot Geshe Lobsang Phuntsok of the Tsuklak Khang temple in Lhasa.
Desi Rinpoche also received many teachings from Drepung Geshe Lamrimpa Ngawang Phuntsok as well as many empowerments of tantrics from Sera Ge Gyaltsen Shakya and others.

Besides studying Buddhism in Sungrab Ling monastery and Drepung monastery, Desi Rinpoche also performed several pujas and initiations for the people of Namkartse, Gongkar and Danang district and other regions during every spring and summer period.
Desi Rinpoche also provided blessings to help with the recovery of those who were physically disabled and conducted exorcisms by recitation of mantras and performed rituals for those who were possessed.

In October 1990, Desi Rinpoche first met His Holiness The 14th Dalai Lama in Dharamsala, India and received his blessing along with several traditional gifts. Subsequently Desi Rinpoche had the golden opportunity to have a private audience with His Holiness The Dalai Lama in his room.
He advised and encouraged Desi Rinpoche to further enhance his knowledge on all aspects of Buddhism in Drepung monastery located in southern India for the superb academic programme which was widely known. Upon completion of the academic studies, Desi Rinpoche would contact HH the Dalai Lama to receive further support. Having been explicitly advised by HH, Desi Rinpoche started his intense study of Buddhist philosophy in Drepung monastery, south india and kept in mind all the valuable suggestions provided by HH the Dalai Lama.

In 1994, Desi Rinpoche received full ordination as a Gelong vows, the highest ordination vows from HH the Dalai Lama at his palace in Dharamsala.

In February 2006, having earned the rank of Geshe Lharampa, Desi Rinpoche participated in one very special debate session in Ganden and Sera monasteries of south India. The session was held before numerous highly reputable scholars from the  three major monasteries of Tibet (Sera, Drepung and Ganden). The debate took place over a nine days festival called the Monlam Chenmo religious festival and was one of the most valuable contribution established by the incomparable Je Tsongkhapa.

In April 2006 Desi Rinpoche studied the different constructions of various mandalas as well as the ritual performances in Gyume Tantric university (GTU) majoring in tantric studies. Approximately one year after Desi Rinpoche entered GTU, he completed the tantric examination which was supervised by the abbot GTU and other tantric scholars. Desi Rinpoche received the highest score in the tantric exam. During those studies Desi Rinpoche received many different kinds of Lamrim teachings, empowerment of four tantrics from  Denma Lochoe Rinpoche and senior Genden Tripa Rizong Rinpoche, Panang Rinpoche, Drayab Topden Rinpoche and Rato Kyongla Rinpoche etc. In short with all the priceless advices and teachings of HH the Dalai Lama Desi Rinpoche always endeavoring to put them into practice on a daily basis.  

2007 Desi Rinpoche was called to the Palace of HH Dalai Lama where he was told that starting from that day, he could stay there in Dharamsala to help with whatever was needed.
Thus, Desi Rinpoche spent a few years in Dharamsala and served as joint secretariat in HH the Dalai Lama’s palace.

Currently, Desi Rinpoche visits many countries to share his knowledge for the benefits of those who want the Dharma and happiness.
During the covid pandemic period, Desi Rinpoche conducted online Dharma talks and meditations for his followers.
